On July 7, 2020, I posted the following image to my Twitter account:
It was based heavily on the Super Mario 64 iceberg that first appeared in 2020 and became massively popular online that year, subsequently inspiring numerous other iceberg images across various different fandoms, as well as entire iceberg videos explaining them in detail. For the uninitiated, an iceberg image is one that lists knowledge or trivia about a certain topic that becomes increasingly obscure the further down the image goes.
As someone who'd been around the YouTube block for over seven years at that point, having accrued a wealth of channel lore in that time, I figured it'd be fun to throw myself into the proverbial waters, just as a goofy one-off gag of sorts. I was also a Mario 64 machinimist at the time, so this trend occurred at just the right moment to incentivize me to capitalize on it and partake in the shenanigans myself. The resulting image and subsequent tweet received several likes, as well as a funny interaction with one of my mutuals.
Fast forward about a year later, and as I was planning to wind down my time on YouTube as MarioMaster810 and begin the process of rebranding my channel, I got the bright idea of taking my iceberg image and making an entire video out of it, sort of as a giant sendoff to the MM810 username. I'd wanted to explain my iceberg image in some capacity when I first created it, so I saw this as a great opportunity to expand upon that concept further.
That August, I went back and updated my iceberg image as shown below:
This version would become the basis for my iceberg video, featuring 75 different points of discussion (a major increase from the previous version's 48), all of which I planned to explain at length.
Unfortunately, during the latter half of 2021, most of my focus shifted toward completing my first college semester, which both cut significantly into my free time and led to a terrible loss in motivation to work on the iceberg video. Additionally, I was confronted with a newfound loneliness in my life after I unwisely cut off all communications I had with the SM64 machinima community, as well as my friends on Discord. As a result of these factors, I hardly made any progress on the project whatsoever before eventually deciding to cancel it around June of 2022. You can watch this video here on my archive channel for more details on what led to my iceberg video never being finished.
Case in point, the project was scrapped and I've since moved on from it. Despite that, however, I do recognize that several people really did look forward to seeing my iceberg video but were ultimately left disappointed, and it'd be a shame if that was its lasting legacy for the rest of time. Therefore, I've decided to take it upon myself and rectify that by using this webpage as a place for me to finally explain my iceberg once and for all! With that being said...
Ladies and gentlemen, after three long years of waiting, this is:
